Commentary
And when the soul falls into a predicament, it does not leave any possible face until it clings to its tails; and it is tied by its ropes; and it weakens by its means. He said - narrating its falsehood; where only truth suffices -: "Or you say"; meaning: at the descent of what it cannot bear; "If only"; and he expressed it; and did not conceal it; expressing it for the sake of glorification; and enjoying the mention of the noble name; so he said: "Allah"; meaning: the One who has complete power and comprehensive knowledge; "has guided me"; meaning: by showing the way; "I would have been"; meaning: constantly adhering, like one who is naturally inclined to be "of the righteous"; meaning: those who do not proceed to do anything unless a proof indicates it to them.
