Commentary
And when a person is faced with loss, he has words and states; if he had imagined them before his attack, he would have calculated his account; so he distanced his causes; he justified the inclination towards following with utmost effort and contention; he said: ﴿That﴾; meaning: dislike for ﴿you to say﴾; and when the one who places a person in deficiency is indeed his desires and lusts that oppose his intellect; he expressed this with his saying: ﴿Soul﴾; meaning: when the punishment befalls it; and the singularity and indefiniteness of it is sufficient in the warning; because anyone could be the intended one; ﴿O my regret﴾; and “regret” is the feeling of sorrow over what has passed; and the lamentation over it; and he replaced the alif instead of the ya; to magnify it; meaning: O how long is its sorrow; due to the exposure of what is good for me; and its distance from me; so there is no reaching it for me to rectify what has passed of it; and that is at the exposure of its states; and the arrival of its conditions and situations; and it indicated the surpassing of this regret by the reading of Abu Ja'far: “My regrets”; by combining the compensation; which is the alif; and the compensated for; which is the ya; and the resolution of the source; because what is resolved to is clearer in the attribution; and more magnificent; and more indicative of the intended meaning; and greater; so he said: ﴿For what I neglected﴾; meaning: for what I wasted; thus its system fell apart from me; and the joining and gathering of it became difficult.
And when the right of every person is close to him; whether in a physical or a meaningful sense; until it is as if it is beside him; and the side is the foundation of the thing; but he may neglect it; due to his deviation from the direction and visibility; so the neglect in it indicates the proportion of the neglectful one towards his companion to the heedlessness of it; and that is a matter that is not forgiven; he said: ﴿Beside﴾; and he directed the saying to the greatest name; for the increase of the terror; by his saying: ﴿Allah﴾; meaning: the right of the greatest king; who is not heedless of it; nor is he negligent regarding it.
And when the harmed, tortured, and oppressed one exaggerates in confessing; hoping for acceptance and dismissal; he said - affirming; exaggerating in the declaration of ceasing from what his state necessitated; and he states with his words; that he is upon the truth; and the utmost seriousness -: ﴿And if﴾; meaning: while I ﴿was﴾; meaning: that was in my nature; ﴿of the mockers﴾; meaning: the scoffers, the arrogant; those who place themselves in a status other than their own; and that is because the disobedience was not enough for me until I was mocking the people of obedience; meaning: you say this hoping that he will excuse it; and pardon it; as is customary for those who seek mercy in times of hardships; hoping that they will return to the best of habits.
