Commentary

And when he negated the suitability of their idols for this matter, he indicated the negation of it from other than it, by limiting the matter to it. So he said: "Say, 'To Allah'"; meaning: the One who encompasses the attributes of perfection, alone. "The intercession"; meaning: this type. "All together"; so no one besides Him possesses anything of it. However, He permits, if He wills, in what He wants of it, to whom He wills of His servants. And when everything besides Him is His property, and it is established that the owned cannot grant ownership of anything that belongs to his master, because two owners cannot share in one thing from one side; he explained that by saying: "To Him"; meaning: alone. "Is the dominion of the heavens and the earth"; meaning: that which you do not see of His dominion besides them; and the intercession is from their dominion. And when the owned is a weak property that may overcome its owner, so it argues with him, and it becomes qualified for intercession with him; he negated that in His right - glorified and exalted is He - by saying, indicating the greatness of His overpowering, with the tool of delay - so he said: "Then to Him"; meaning: not to anyone else. "You will be returned"; a meaning in this world, by executing all His commands upon you, and a tangible meaning in the Hereafter.
