Commentary
And when He informed - glorified and exalted is He - of His power over resurrection; He indicated it by what is repeatedly witnessed from similar things; and He specifically addressed the chosen one ﷺ; urging reflection on this evidence; alerting to its greatness; He said - estimating -: ﴿Did you not see﴾; meaning: what indicates to you His power - glorified and exalted is He - to restore what has decayed; and torn apart; and scattered; ﴿That Allah﴾; meaning: the One who possesses all attributes of perfection; ﴿sent down from the sky﴾; meaning: which water does not remain in except by a remarkable power that compels it to do so; ﴿water﴾; as you see it every year; ﴿Then He made it flow﴾; meaning: through the soil; while it is ﴿springs﴾; meaning: gushing fountains; ﴿in the earth﴾; so He compelled it to rise after having concealed it in its depths by flooding; and the rain; after having forced it to comply in rising; then He compelled it to descend in a known measure; and a planned manner; and a divided matter; Al-Sha'bi and Al-Dahhak said: Every water in the earth comes from the sky; it descends to the rock; then from it the springs and wells are divided.
And when the emergence of vegetation was delayed from the descent of rain; He expressed it with "Then"; and in it is also an alert to the greatness of the matter in what follows; as it is the place of the witness; He said: ﴿Then He brings forth﴾; meaning: Allah; ﴿with it﴾; meaning: the water; ﴿crops﴾; and when the cause differs; while the cause remains the same; it is amazing in the creation; and indicates the wondrous power; He said: ﴿Different are its colors﴾; meaning: in the types; and qualities; and natures; and tastes; and other than that; while the water is the same which He gathered from the depths of the earth; after it had crumbled in it and became soil.
And when the stopping after the strength of the oversight indicates the compulsion; and the enforcement of the matter; He said indicating that exceeding the limit is not praiseworthy in anything; for it returns to him with deficiency; ﴿Then it withers﴾; and He increased in emphasizing this meaning; to urge reflection on it; by attributing it to the best of creation ﷺ; He said: ﴿So you see it﴾; meaning: it results from its withering; which is the intensity of its growth; in its development; after completion; by the timing of the end; that you see it ﴿yellow﴾; taking on dryness after that bloom; and joy; and freshness; and when the context is to demonstrate complete power; He expressed it with making; attributing it to Him - glorified and exalted is He - unlike the verse of "Iron"; in which He expressed it with being; because the context there is that the world is non-existence; He said: ﴿Then He makes it into dust﴾; meaning: shattered; broken down and worn out.
And when this marvelous pattern was completed, undoubtedly indicating to all who saw it; that its doer is capable of recreating what He wills; after destruction; just as He was able to bring into existence from nothing; and to provide for everything that did not exist; He said - for the sake of emphasis; to alert them that their denial is extreme in foolishness; and rigidity -: "Indeed, in that"; meaning: the planning in this manner; "is a reminder"; meaning: a great and clear reminder about resurrection; and what will come after it; for indeed, plants are like humans; they are water; then they become a human; then a child emerges; then he becomes a youth; then he becomes an adult; then an old man; then he becomes dust scattered in the earth; then He gathers him and brings him forth just as water brings forth plants; "for those of understanding"; meaning: those with very clear minds; as He pointed out specifically in the address; at the beginning of this chapter; to the one to whom this book was revealed; and as for others and those who do not follow him with goodness; they are like the beasts of the animals.
