Commentary

Those who listen; that is: with all their hearts; the saying; that is: this type from every speaker; they are not rude and harsh when they turn to something, turning away from others without evidence; so they follow; that is: with all their determination; after evaluating it; the best of it; by what their minds have guided them to; without deviating to the slightest inclination; and it is clear in this verse the encouragement of the people of the Book to follow this great Qur'an; for indeed, all the Books of Allah are good; and this Qur'an is the best of them in words; meanings; and arrangement; no one who has the slightest taste doubts this.

And when He clarified their actions; that produced their praise; so He said - manifesting an increase in love for them; and concern for their affairs; with emphasis -: Those; that is: the high in ambition and rank specifically; and when there were among these chosen ones those of very high rank and others; He highlighted the object; so He said - shifting the style to the greatest name; indicating the greatness of their guidance -: Allah has guided them; by what He has of perfect attributes; so He clarified - glorified and exalted is He - that there is no reaching Him except by Him; and this is contrary to the verse of 'Al-An'am'; where He mentioned the prophets - blessings and peace be upon them - and said: 'Those are the ones whom Allah has guided'; so He omitted the object; so that their guidance becomes repeated by the necessity of directing the doer towards the relative that the pronoun returned to in this verse; and He repeated the reference; as an increase in their glorification; so He said: And those are; that is: specifically; the possessors of understanding; that is: the pure minds free from any impurity.
