And when the leader, if he competes for something, excites the souls towards it; and makes it obligatory for them to devote themselves to it; he said: ﴿And I was commanded﴾ meaning; the command has occurred for me; and it has been established with great commands; beyond what you have been commanded with; which you cannot bear; ﴿Because﴾; meaning: for the sake of (p-474) that; ﴿I may be﴾; at my time; and in my legislation; ﴿The first﴾; meaning: the greatest ﴿of the Muslims﴾; meaning: those who submit in rank, attaining the lead in every regard to the commands of the God; who there is no success except by complying with His commands; or precede the beings among them in my time; so the direction of this action is different from the direction of the first; and for that reason, he has added to it because it is for the attainment of the lead; and the first is for the absolute sincerity in worship.
