Commentary

And when they claimed that they were the greatest of people in their eagerness for wonders and in searching for the subtleties and the great qualities of virtues, He rebuked them with His saying - describing it -: "You are turning away from it"; meaning: specifically; not from anything else; while the case is that other than it is neglected. And when most of them were prepared for Islam and turning away from disbelief, He did not say: "They are retreating"; nor "You are turning away"; rather He said: "They are turning away"; meaning: your turning away is established at this time; and it was necessary for you to turn towards Him specifically; and to turn away from everything besides Him; for in that is complete happiness. And if you had turned to Him with contemplation, you would have certainly known the truth of my words; and that I do not want for you except happiness in this world and the Hereafter; so hasten to turn towards me and accept what I say.
