Commentary
And when it was in the Fire - may Allah protect us from it by His pardon and mercy - what cannot be counted among the types of punishment; he said - referring to "this" -: ﴿and another﴾; meaning: of the types of what is tasted; according to the reading of the Basri scholars - in the plural for "ukhra"; and "madhuq"; according to the reading of others in the singular; and it is then for the genus; and he informed about the subject with his saying: ﴿of its kind﴾; meaning: the kind of this tasted thing; and when the intended meaning is the multitude among the punished; and they are the transgressors; and in their punishment; with the distinction of it by types; even if it is united in the genus of punishment; he specified it in his saying: ﴿pairs﴾; meaning: they are; or it is; or he is; meaning: the genus of their punishment has many types.
