Commentary
And when the matter was completed by mentioning the Friend; and his son - peace be upon them - who never left his protection; and his additional mention as one who was given glad tidings; for the purpose of following their example in their patience upon the religion; even if those who opposed them opposed them; he followed him with his son whom he commanded to detach from him; once by residing near the Sacred House; so that he would become a root at the head of the most noble of places; and once by the command to slaughter him in those noble sites; thus what was added to him from the states and actions of the great rites - blessings and peace be upon him -; and he singled him out for mention as a sign that he is a great root at the head of it; from the foundations of the eminent leaders; so he said: ﴿And mention Isma'il﴾; meaning: your father; and what he endured from the trials of estrangement; and isolation; and solitude; and facing death for Allah; not just once; and what came to him after that trial from relief; and leadership; and mention in this city; ﴿and Al-Yasa﴾; meaning: the one whom Al-Yasa - peace be upon him - appointed as a successor over the Children of Israel; so Allah gathered them upon him after that severe disagreement; which was among them regarding Al-Yasa - peace be upon him -; ﴿and Dhul-Kifl﴾; meaning: the great share of fulfillment; for what he fulfills from every lofty matter; and righteous, pure deed.
And when the description of those before Ibrahim - peace be upon him - was advanced with repentance; and they were specifically mentioned; for what they had of distractions from it due to every trial of ease; and trial of hardship; and likewise in servitude, equally; and the matter of mention was - with the omission of the aforementioned description for its sake; and the reference to it by hinting; and there is no objection to mentioning it -; indicating the utmost praise for him to dispel the illusion in seeking every doctrine; he said - generalizing the description with servitude and repentance for all those mentioned; adding to what the conjunction guided to that is not mentioned; according to what you estimate: "Indeed, they are repentant"; so that it would be an explanation for their mention with what he explained for the mention of the first mentioned among them -: (p-400) ﴿And all﴾; meaning: from those mentioned in this surah among the prophets; are standing firmly in the right of servitude; for they are among the best of Our servants; from these three and those before them; ﴿from the good﴾; meaning: just as each of them is repentant in the description of patience - as has been mentioned in "The Prophets" -; and besides that; from every good; noting that patience encompasses all paths; for they are those who should be followed in patience upon the religion; and adherence to the path of the pious.
