Commentary
And when He mentioned - glorified and exalted is He - whom He tested in his body; and his wealth; and his child; then He made the water coolness; and peace; and health; and order; and healing and sustenance; He turned to him who was tested by fire; at the hands of the tyrants; and made it coolness; and peace; by relying on Him; and his patience with Him; and saved him from their plots; and made his hands with his singularity above their hands; then He tested him with migration from his homeland; and his family; and his tribe; and his dwelling; then with the slaughter of his son; so he was patient through all of that; relying on Allah's grace; and His favor; so he said: "And remember Our servant"; with the oneness; in the narration of Ibn Kathir; for the kind; or for Ibrahim alone - peace be upon him - because he is the origin of whom he was turned to; in religion; and fatherhood; so Allah clarified the basis of His turning to him in praise of servitude as well; then He clarified the intended meaning by His saying: ﴿Ibrahim﴾; and He turned to the servant, not to the one clarified; so that a single clarification does not necessitate a group; if Ibrahim alone is intended; not the kind, his son; for his patience on his religion in the estrangement among the idol worshippers and the distancers from faith; so he did not attract their attention; nor did he draw near to them; rather he was sent to his relatives in the lands of the East; so he married from among them one who agreed with him on his true religion; and he continued in the sincerity of worship; not taking him in Allah's cause the blame of a blamer; until he passed on his way; so he said: ﴿And Ishaq﴾; then he followed him with his son who followed his footsteps; and he was patient with his patience; and he was tested with the loss of his son; and the joy of his liver; so he was the most complete in patience in that hardship; and he excelled in praise and gratitude; so Allah said: ﴿And Yaqub﴾; and He joined them - glorified is He - with their father; after the reading of the singular clarified his origin in the praise of servitude; so He turned them to Himself; in the reading other than that of Ibn Kathir: "Our servants"; in the plural; as He said: ﴿And those who believed and their descendants followed them in faith, We joined with them their descendants﴾ [At-Tur: 21]
And when they were gathered with the turning; or the substitution; He described them by saying: ﴿Those of great strength﴾; meaning: the strong power; and the righteous deeds; because the hands are the greatest tools of that; ﴿and the sight﴾; meaning: the apparent senses; and the hidden; which are truly worthy of being mentioned; and praised for their strong perception; and the greatness of their influence; in what is worthy of being observed from the majesty of Allah; and His watchfulness in movements; and stillness; in secret and openly; and He expressed that by the sight; because it is the strongest of its principles; and whoever is not like them is deprived of strength; and intellect; so he has no intellect; and thus he is nothing; so it is the greatest reproach for one whom Allah has granted strength and intellect; then does not direct it to the worship of Allah and striving in it - glorified is He.
