Commentary
And when the response came as a result of his supplication, He informed him - glorified and exalted is He - by His saying: ﴿So We subjected﴾; meaning: We made submissive; by that which We have of greatness; ﴿to him the wind﴾; for terrifying the enemy; and reaching the objectives; in place of the horses; which he left for our sake. Then He clarified the subjugation by His saying - resuming -: ﴿It runs by His command gently﴾; meaning: while it is in a state of utmost gentleness; submissive by which one can achieve what cannot be achieved by horses; ﴿Its morning journey is a month and its evening journey is a month﴾ [Saba: 12]; and whoever leaves something for the sake of Allah, Allah compensates him with better than it; and here it is an exaggeration of the gentleness; and when His hitting what He wills is concomitant with His will, He expressed it by it; because it is the intended goal; so He said: ﴿Wherever it strikes﴾; meaning: He intended to strike something of the things; and Allah has made for our Prophet ﷺ greater than that; which is that the enemy is terrified of him to a distance of a month; from its four sides; so it is four months.
