Commentary
And he explained repentance; to know that He (glorified and exalted is He) tested him while he is a servant of great status; whose supplication is answered; by his saying - in response to the one who asked about it -: ﴿He said, My Lord﴾; meaning: O You who is gracious to me; ﴿forgive me﴾; meaning: the matter for which repentance was the reason; and when he preceded the matter of the Hereafter; he followed it with his saying: ﴿and grant me﴾; meaning: specifically for me; ﴿a kingdom that does not belong to anyone﴾; meaning: there is no request for it that results in compliance and ease ﴿for anyone﴾; at any time; whether it is complete in form; and meaning; or a body devoid of honor; as the trial occurred with him before; and he distinguished the time by mentioning the neighbor; so he said: ﴿after me﴾; until I can attain all that I desire of closeness (p-384) to You; and the struggle against whoever opposes You; and that would be a sign for me of the acceptance of my repentance; and let there not be a trial for me by casting something upon the place of my authority; or otherwise; and this indicates that the trial was in the kingdom; and likewise the mention of casting upon the throne; added to it; without anything being attributed to him ﷺ; and it is appropriate for the crippling of the horses; which is the removal of what has honor; and Allah knows best; and by this estimation it is known that if he had mentioned the circumstance without a letter; it would imply the restriction of the supplication by a kingdom that extends over the time that follows it; then he justified what he requested of giving and withholding by saying - as a means of emphasis; dismissing what has predominated over souls from the perception of causes -: ﴿Indeed, You are﴾; meaning: solely You; ﴿the Bestower﴾; meaning: the Great Giver; with repetition; whenever You wish; so You give for a reason; and without a reason to whom You will; and You withhold from whom You will.
