Commentary
And when the statement of the magnitude of his kingdom; and the greatness of his awe and honor; along with the increase of his return; is to achieve consolation through him in the goodness of his conduct; and his conclusion; and the solace in his trial along with that from his nobility and beauty; he indicated the abundance of horses very much; and the increase of his love for them; and the swiftness of his return; by saying: ﴿So he said﴾; and when it was appropriate for his condition; and known from his actions; that he does not prefer anything over the remembrance of Allah; hardly anyone from those who witnessed that would think of him that way; rather they direct to him in that various perspectives; and they carry him on supports that are fitting for what they know of his state of turning to Allah; and being independent of anything else; he affirmed his words - in humility to Allah (the Most High); so that they may believe that he is human; upon whom what is permissible for them is permissible; were it not for the protection of Allah -: ﴿Indeed, I﴾; and when love is an inward matter that does not appear in anything except by the abundance of engagement with it; and engagement may be for reasons other than love; it is not indicative of it; except by evidences; he said - acknowledging -: ﴿I loved﴾; meaning: I found; and I manifested by what appeared from me of engagement with horses; coupled with that with evidence of affection; ﴿Love of good﴾ (p-380) and it is wealth; rather the essence of wealth; and the cause of all worldly and otherworldly good: "The horses are tied at their forelocks with goodness until the Day of Resurrection." I manifested that with utmost desire; heedless of ﴿the remembrance of my Lord﴾; the One who has bestowed upon me with these horses; which occupied me and others; so I did not mention Him in the prayer which was the duty of the time; even though my intention for it was for the sake of His obedience as a remembrance of Him; and that continued with me ﴿until it set﴾; meaning: the sun understood from "the evening"; ﴿with a veil﴾; and it is the earth that has intervened between us and it; so it became behind it in reality.
