Commentary
And when the situation could be problematic in informing about forgiveness if he expressed it with the pronoun of the absent; to imply that his Lord is not the speaker; and that forgiveness is only appropriate with the ability; he returned to the manifestation of greatness; affirming perfection; and negating deficiency: he said: ﴿So We forgave﴾; meaning: because of that; and in its effect; upon our greatness; and the completeness of our ability; forgiveness that matches its measure with what we have of greatness; ﴿To Him belongs that﴾; meaning: the occurrence of speaking about attributing wrongdoing to someone without hearing his words; and the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, stipulated with his Lord - glorified and exalted is He - for the sake of this story that everyone who insulted him; or invoked harm upon him; and is not deserving of that, that this should be for him a prayer; and a blessing and mercy; and the result is that this matter is for training the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, on patience towards his people; and the second is that this surah is among the earliest that was revealed in Makkah, as narrated from Jabir ibn Zayd; and this is what the previous hadith from Ibn Abbas - may Allah be pleased with both of them - indicated regarding the complaint of the polytheists against him, blessings and peace be upon him, to his uncle Abu Talib about the occurrence of mentioning their deities; for he was in the early stages; for when the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, first called them, he was not commanded to mention their deities; so they did not respond to him; and they did not distance themselves from him completely; then Allah commanded him to mention their deities; so they rejected him at that time; and distanced themselves from him; and they preceded that with complaints to Abu Talib; repeatedly; to turn him away from him; and this claim was training for Dawud - peace be upon him - in judgments; and he mentioned it to the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, as training for him on patience in all his matters continuously.
And when the mention of this might imply something in his مقام (maqam); it was conveyed in the style of emphasis with his saying: ﴿And indeed, for Him﴾; meaning: with forgiveness; and the greatness of that; in the manifestation of greatness; because what is attributed to the great can only be great; so he said: ﴿With Us﴾; and he increased in showing concern for that; negating that which might be imagined; so he affirmed his saying: ﴿Surely, it is a great closeness﴾; meaning: a great and established proximity after forgiveness; ﴿And a good return﴾; meaning: a reference; in all that is hoped for from goodness; and above that; this is a teacher; and it must be that this matter did not lead to its mention except for the elevation in ranks of perfection; nothing else; and the most evident evidence for what I have mentioned - that this trial is indeed for training in judgment; not because of a woman; nor anything else; and that what they mentioned from the story of the woman is false; even if it became famous; for how many famous and mentioned falsehoods are indeed lies - His saying (the Most High) after it - in the form of investment from it; diverting the saying from the manifestation of greatness; to the confrontation with sweet speech; in a manner similar to what occurs between loved ones -:
