Commentary
(p-321) Surah 'Sad'
The intended meaning of it is to clarify what was mentioned at the end of 'As-Saffat'; that the soldiers of Allah are the victorious ones - even if it is seen that they are weak; and even if their victory is delayed - the ultimate victory is safety for both parties; because He - glorified and exalted is He - is One due to His encompassing attributes of perfection; as understood from the end of 'As-Saffat'; regarding glorification; and praise; and what accompanies them; and for this reason, it is indicated by its naming with the letter 'Sad'; because its articulation is from the tip of the tongue; and between the roots of the lower incisors; and it has from its attributes: whispering; softness; closure; elevation; and hissing; thus it indicates that; because its articulation is one of the most accessible articulations of letters; and the widest; and the lightest; and the most elegant; and the most prevalent; and because what it has of high attributes is more than its opposites; and more magnificent; and higher; and larger; and for this reason, those mentioned in it from the prophets were noted; who did not have destruction upon their hands; rather they were tested; and they were known; and Allah saved them from their enemies from the jinn; and mankind; and to this points what has been narrated from Ibn Abbas - may Allah be pleased with both of them - and from others; that its meaning is: Allah is truthful in what He promised; or Muhammad - blessings and peace be upon him - was truthful; or Muhammad - blessings and peace be upon him - has won the hearts of creation; and He swayed them; and with this Abu Amr read in a rare narration; as it is a past action from (p-322) 'As-Sayd'; and Al-Hasan and others read with a broken 'Sad'; as it is a command from 'Al-Musaadah'; which is opposition; meaning: oppose with what We have revealed to you the creatures; and argue with them by it; for you will overcome them; because truth is the sword of Allah on His earth; He does not place it upon anything except that it cuts it; and this truth which is indicated by the 'Sad' has spread over every truth in existence; swaying everyone who has a type of truth; and for this reason, it was said in the surah that follows: 'And the one who brought the truth and believed in it' [Az-Zumar: 33] so the mention of these prophets - peace be upon them - is a witness to the existence of what the 'Sad' means among the God-fearing scholars; that it is the correspondence between creation; and the command; and it is called 'Surah Dawud' - peace be upon him - as Ibn Al-Jawzi - may Allah have mercy on him - said; and his state - blessings and peace be upon him - is the most indicative of the states of those in it from the prophets regarding this intended meaning; due to what was in it of weakness at first; and kingship at the end; 'In the name of Allah'; who honors whoever belongs to Him; even if he is weak; because He is the Mighty; 'the Most Gracious'; who has complete power to have mercy in adversity; just as He has mercy in prosperity; 'the Most Merciful'; who honored the people of His affection; by assisting them in adhering to His gratitude; and praise.
And when our Lord - glorified is He - purified Himself, the Most Sacred; at the conclusion of that; from every blemish of deficiency; and affirmed for Him every perfection; asserting His might; and made safety obligatory for the messengers; He began this by referring to the evidence of that; by the defeat of those who dispute it; and He said: ﴿S﴾; meaning: Indeed, your matter - O you whom We commanded to seek the opinion of the sinners at the end of 'As-Saffat'; and We gave him glad tidings of victory - is prepared along with the weakness that you are in now; and the ease; and the confinement; and the elevation and spread that fills the horizons; ﴿And the Qur'an﴾; meaning: the comprehensive - along with the clarification - of every good; for followers that cannot be counted; nor can they be encompassed by a limit; and since the oath is not appropriate; nor is it good except by what the one swearing believes to be honorable; He said: ﴿Of the Reminder﴾; meaning: the admonition; and the reminder of what is known; and the elevation; and the honor; and the truth; which there is no doubt about in the sight of everyone; so everyone who hears it believes in its honor; and affirms what is brought by it; certainly, its honor that is revealed to him will fill the lands; and it will increase beyond every measure; as the indication of that has been established by the first letter; and those who disbelieved - even if they showed doubt in that; and belittled it with words - they do not belittle it in knowledge;
