Commentary

And when the determination was: "So they gathered to depart from their land; because they turned away from the proof to stubbornness; he followed it with his saying: ﴿And he said﴾; meaning: Ibrahim - peace be upon him -; for whoever perceives in him that his words will revive him from the death of ignorance; confirming that a person's departure from his homeland is hardly believable; ﴿Indeed, I am going﴾; meaning: a migrant without hesitation; they said: and he is the first to migrate from creation; ﴿to my Lord﴾; meaning: to the place that the Benefactor commanded me to migrate to; so no one should prevent me in my worship of Him. And when the condition of his listener is worthy of saying: Who has knowledge of what will achieve your purpose; from the definition of the place; and what you will do in it; which will bring about righteousness? And what will you do to reach it? He said: ﴿He will guide me﴾; meaning: to all of that; with a promise that will not be broken; to all that contains upbringing for me in the matter of migration; because He commanded me to do so; and He does not command anything except that He establishes a proof to guide to it; and makes easy for the one who strives in his matter a way to it; and the expressions have differed about the journey of the saints to the sacred presences; so this expression is about the matter of the Friend - peace be upon him -; and he expressed the matter of the Speaker - peace be upon him - with his saying: ﴿And when Moses came to our appointed time﴾ [Al-A'raf: 143]; and about the matter of the Beloved - blessings and peace be upon him - with his saying: ﴿Glorified is He who took His Servant﴾ [Al-Isra: 1]; the teacher Abu al-Qasim al-Qushayri said; and he distinguished between these stations: Ibrahim - peace be upon him - was in the state of separation; meaning that after he was in the state of gathering when he broke the idols from the realm of other than Allah; he returned to the state of separation; because it is necessary; and Musa - peace be upon him - was in the state of gathering; because he informed about his action without attributing a saying to himself; then he informed that he said: "My Lord, show Yourself to me"; so he saw none other than Him - glorified is He -; so he requested to be shown; and this is the annihilation; and our Prophet - blessings and peace be upon him - is in the state of complete gathering; because no saying or action is attributed to him; rather he is the intended one; until he said: ﴿To show him of Our signs﴾ [Al-Isra: 1] so this is the annihilation even from annihilation; then he said: ﴿Indeed, He is﴾ [Al-Isra: 1] the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing; so he affirmed for him - with that - perfection.
