Commentary
And when the witnesses had overwhelmingly dominated him in belittling them, this caused a great threat regarding their action. He said, indicating that it is enough for the rational person in forbidding to suspect harm: "So what do you think?" And when the ingratitude for kindness is severe, he reminded them of his kindness, preserving the context of the threat by indicating that fear of the cessation of kindness is enough in that regard. He said: "By the Lord of the worlds," meaning: the One who is unique in creating all substances and attributes and nurturing them. He is deserving of their unification in worship of Him. Do you think that He will not punish you after you have diverted what He has blessed you with to the worship of others? This indicates the denial of the permissibility of such a thing, and it is certain that a benefactor would not be pleased with the continuous bestowal of his kindness upon one who attributes it to others.
