﴿So they﴾; that is: the distant ones; the hated ones; ﴿are upon their tracks﴾; that is: which hardly becomes clear to anyone; due to the obscurity of their paths; due to their weakness; and the severity of their frailty; and the obliteration of their signs; not upon anything else; ﴿they rush﴾; that is: as if they are compelled by a compeller to hurry; so they are in utmost eagerness to do that; without stopping for evidence; nor illuminating themselves with a proof; (p-243) to the extent that the one who follows this rushing; due to the intensity of their clamor against him; something akin to thunder; and that is contrary to their stopping; and their stagnation regarding what our Messenger ﷺ brought them from the tree of Zaqqum; and others; from what is in utmost clarity; and obviousness; so they persisted in denying it; and mocking it; and they insisted after the establishment of the proofs; so they were like mountains in their steadfastness upon their misguidance; and like heavy solid stones; firmly rooted in the depths of their mud.
