Commentary
And when this description of the enticing nature of this bliss was missed, he threw another description of it; it surpassed the minds and exceeded the limits of comprehension. It rose above the imagination of delusion, in a questioning that repels from its opposite, by the measure of the encouragement in it for whoever has understanding. So he said: ﴿Is that﴾ the reward that is far-reaching and unique in example? ﴿Better as a lodging﴾; he indicated by that that it is indeed something easy, just as is presented to the guest upon his arrival, regarding what is beyond that, of which the minds cannot encompass, nor the understandings grasp. ﴿Or the tree of Zaqqum﴾; meaning: the one you know to be in the utmost foulness and bitterness, from their saying: 'The food was Zaqqum' when he consumes it with great reluctance and difficulty. And he equated between what cannot be equated in any way, as a warning regarding that. And because they used to see (p-239) what caused that to be better than the deeds of the believers, which brought them bliss; it was as if they were saying: 'Indeed, this punishment is better than bliss.' Thus, that was conveyed as a reprimand for them regarding their poor choice.
