Commentary
And when this saying was a cause for the great longing of the listener for what will come after it; and the people of Paradise are in high status; and position; and sound bodies; and strong composition; and penetrating sight; whereby they look at whatever they wish from the Fire and other than it from what is below them; whenever they wish; he began his saying - indicating that his state is a sign that he is among the people of the Fire -: "He said"; that is: this speaker; for his drinking of these; those who are as some of them said in a poem:
"Perhaps a drink like a necklace they have been arranged in
In garments whose design is generosity.
So I seized the joy as they seized it
And I thought the cups among them
Were stars in the sky of joy to be seen
Each star disappearing in the full moon."
"Are you looking?"; that is: seeing my heart by leaving what you are in of complete pleasure; and you make yourselves look with me at the Fire; to make me happy with that.
