Commentary

And when that cannot be complete except with drink; and the intended purpose is the circumambulation in it; not because it is from a specific source; He said: ﴿It is circumambulated﴾; in the passive form; and as if it is lowered to them from above; so that it may be more honorable for it; and more preserved; and He pointed out that with the tool of elevation; He said: ﴿Upon them﴾; meaning: while they are above their beds like kings; ﴿With a cup﴾; meaning: a vessel containing wine; they said: even if there is no wine in the bottle, it is still a cup; and it is not called a cup except when the wine is in it; ﴿From a flowing source﴾; meaning: from wine flowing in its rivers; apparent to the eyes; springing forth like water springs; they do not treat it with juice; nor does it lead them to be gentle with it; and the deficiency in it; is a type of deficiency; Al-Razi said: it is named so either because of its appearance to the eye; or due to its strong flow; from the intensity of the movement; or due to its abundance; from 'ma'in'; which means the abundant; and 'ma'oon' is named for its great benefit; and it is said: a drink that is abundant: it hardly ever ceases.
