Commentary
﴿So it has become obligatory upon us﴾; that is: all of us; you and us; because of that; and they expressed what indicates their regret; so they said: ﴿The saying of our Lord﴾; that is: the One who we faced His kindness towards us; and His nurturing of us with ingratitude; and His saying is the judgment of misguidance - due to what is in our hearts of the capability for it; and the refusal of faith -; so the judgment is of punishment.
And when they imagined what they had become of the gross error from the clear path; and they knew that such a thing is not left by anyone except by the overpowering of an overpowerer; they imagined that nothing had compelled them to it except the rights of the supreme word; they knew that just as they had come to its judgment in disbelief, they would come to its judgment in punishment; so they said - due to what overwhelmed them of regret; wanting to definitely cut off the hopes of the followers from what their words implied that the leaders would avail them of anything -: ﴿Indeed, we﴾; that is: all of us ﴿will surely taste﴾; that is: what has befallen us by it of the warning of the evil punishment.
