Commentary
And when he informed that they were asked; and they did not respond; it was perhaps thought that they were made mute; so he pointed out that they speak in a way that increases their distress; and he said - connecting it to his saying: ﴿And they said, 'Woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment'﴾ [As-Saffat: 20] indicating their approach to dispute; at the time of standing; and their movement in stirring their feet by walking in the manner of gathering and crowding; to the places of distress and sorrow; and he did not connect it with 'fa' (and) because it is not a result of the standing; nor of stopping for the question; unlike what comes from the people of Paradise -: ﴿And some of them approached others﴾; meaning: those who wronged ﴿to one another﴾; meaning: after they are stopped; and reprimanded; and he expressed their dispute mockingly with them; by saying: ﴿They question one another﴾; meaning: a question of dispute.
