Commentary
And when their saying is only for lamenting what they have missed of the beneficial affirmation by it, they increased in that by their saying - addressing one another; instead or as a description after description; indicating by the repetition of the demonstrative pronoun what has entered them of horror -: "This is the Day of Separation"; meaning: the day in which the disputes will be separated; then they increased in regret, and gloom, and eagerness, by their saying - diverting the speech from talking to addressing; for it is more indicative of their blame of one another; and further from fairness by acknowledging -: "Which you used to deny"; meaning: O callers to woe, by nature and disposition; "By it you deny"; and they placed the preposition first; indicating the magnitude of their denial of it; so while they are in this regret; suddenly the call appeared with what calms their powers; and settles their hearts; and both of them; for those who do not disobey Allah in what He commands them; and do what they are commanded; from the mighty, severe angels; by humiliating them; and belittling them; and to indicate the swiftness of that without any relief that indicates the call; such as saying: "And it was said to the angels"; or "And We said"; or "And the call appeared from the side of Our Sovereignty"; and similar to this;.
