And when the purpose of depicting their state with this present tense action was achieved, He turned to it with the past tense form; which means the reception; as a notification of the realization of the matter, the realization of what has passed and occurred; and its realization with the standing is the same; without any delay; nor any interruption of time at all; so He said: ﴿And they said﴾; meaning: everyone whom the resurrection has gathered from the disbelievers; informing of what has been revealed to them; that there is no companion for them other than woe; ﴿O woe to us﴾; meaning: O one who has no companion for us other than it; ﴿This is the Day of Judgment﴾; meaning: the recompense; for every doer.
