Commentary
And when the meaning was: Will our resurrection be established? They directed their saying to it - repeating the interrogative denial; affirming the increase of their distancing from it; until they were certain that it is impossible. So they said a weak saying: "Or our forefathers?" That is: Will our resurrection be established; and likewise our forefathers? And they increased in their distancing by their saying: "The former ones;" that is: those who had a long stay in the earth beneath the layers of dust; and their parts have decayed; to the extent that no trace of them remains; and the ages have passed; and no one among them has been resurrected one day; to guide us by his resurrection to what is claimed of that.
