Commentary
And when it is known that this inquiry from the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, occurred in compliance with the command by which it was initiated; and by this statement their power is nullified; and the power of their deities, which they claim to have some power, is also nullified. He said - confirming this; and negating the power of the sincere ones as well; in addition to ﴿For indeed you and what you worship﴾ [As-Saffat: 161] -: ﴿And there is none among us﴾; meaning: we; and you; and your deities; and no one else; ﴿Except that for him is a known position﴾; which Allah, glorified and exalted is He, has decreed in eternity; then He informed the angels of what He intended from it; so no one among the creation can surpass what He has established in it - glorified is He - in any kind of surpassing; for each of the angels has a known position that he does not exceed; and the awliya (friends of Allah) have a concealed position between them and Allah; which no one can access; and the prophets - peace be upon them - have a well-known position; supported by evident miracles; because they are a role model for the creation; so their matter is upon (p-312) fame; and the matter of the awliya is upon concealment; this was said by Al-Qushayri; and others not mentioned among the people of happiness; they have a known position in misery with Allah, glorified and exalted is He; and with those whom He has informed of it from His servants.
