Commentary
"Except for him who is"; meaning: in His judgment; and His decree; "a resident of Hellfire"; meaning: he is punished with its punishment; for His judgment upon him with misery; it is known that you cannot change him except for whom He changes; so by His judgment he has gone astray; not by you - we seek refuge in You from You; there is no escape from You except to You -; and the purpose of presenting the preposition is that another may be able to corrupt him who does not want his corruption; and he is unable to repel the corruptor; so the expression with the tool of superiority is mockery of them; meaning that there is nothing in your hands of misguidance except this which He has made for you as a cause; so if you have dominance, then call it by that; and the unification of the pronoun on the word "who"; in both instances; is to indicate that the dead in polytheism; after the sending of the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, from the Arabs is few; and it was read unusually "a resident"; to dispel the notion that it is singular.
