And when their denial of resurrection was such; even if it occurred only once; in its disgrace; its greatness; and its ugliness; like their renewing of mockery whenever they heard a verse; and the exaggeration in it; for the evidence of it is in a state that is far removed from doubts; this is indicated by the expression in the past; so He said: ﴿And they said﴾; meaning: what is the utmost in astonishment; ﴿If﴾; meaning: what; ﴿is this﴾; meaning: that which has come to us regarding the matter of resurrection; and other than it from what we have witnessed; or what has been informed to us; ﴿Except magic﴾; meaning: illusion; and deceptive matters; having no realities; ﴿Clear﴾; meaning: evident in itself; and manifesting their mockery.
