Commentary
﴿He will remain in its belly﴾; meaning: alive; or by being food for it; so that its parts mix with its parts; ﴿until the Day they are resurrected﴾; meaning: he and the fish; and others among the creatures; and he expressed it in the plural to indicate the generality of the resurrection; if he had mentioned it in the singular, it would not have indicated the resurrection of mute animals; and if he had mentioned it in the dual, it would have been assumed that this is specific to him and the fish; for a meaning that is specific to them; so it would not indicate the resurrection of others besides them; and it was said: he will remain alive in its belly; and in the verse is an indication of the saying: "Recognize Allah in times of ease; He will recognize you in times of hardship"; and an encouragement to remember Him; and an exaltation of His status.
