Commentary

And when the aim of such a thing is to warn the opposers; and the merchants of Quraysh see the area where the people of Lot were; which is the well-known lake; and they do not take heed of them; they are counted as denying the passing by them; so He brought forth the words to them in the context of emphasis; it was said: ﴿And indeed you﴾; meaning: We did this to them; while you, O assembly of Quraysh; ﴿will surely pass by them﴾; meaning: the locations of their dwellings; in your trades to the Levant; ﴿in the morning﴾; meaning: entering in the morning; the time in which We turned their cities upside down upon them; and He specified it for the reminder of their condition therein.
