Commentary
And when He clarified the blessing of salvation from captivity, He followed it with the blessing of enjoyment in victory. He said: ﴿And We supported them﴾; meaning: Musa and Harun - peace be upon them - and their people, against everyone who opposed them in that time, from Fir'aun and others. ﴿So they were﴾; meaning: specifically; ﴿the victors﴾; meaning: over everyone who inflicted upon them the worst of punishment; and that is Fir'aun and his people; and over all who opposed him or opposed them. So beware, O gathering of Quraysh and the Arabs, of something like that. And indeed, what the Messenger of Allah - blessings and peace be upon him - warned them of was of the greatest that could be. However, when our Prophet - blessings and peace be upon him - was the Prophet of mercy, Allah softened their hearts until He brought them back to what they were pleased with, which was following him. Thus, they became through him the kings of this world and the Hereafter.
