Commentary
And he began to mention what he rewarded him with for that. He made among it the matter of Isaac - peace be upon him - and said: ﴿And We gave him good tidings﴾; meaning: as a reward for his patience in hastening to comply with the command to sacrifice Ishmael - peace be upon him -; ﴿with Isaac﴾; a newborn; as an addition for him; after we had submitted Ishmael - peace be upon him - while he was ﴿a prophet﴾; meaning: in our decree; or with his existence, his prophethood is predetermined. And since this term may be applied to a false prophet, he removed the ambiguity of this possibility, even if it is weak, by saying: ﴿of the righteous﴾; meaning: those firmly established in the rank of righteousness; so that he may be suitable for most of the good attributes.
