Commentary

And when he presented what is more important than his prohibition of his treatment; and from the good news of the reward; he mentioned his ransom with what He made a lasting Sunnah by which the beautiful mention is remembered; throughout the passing of days; and the succession of years; and when the one who was ransomed from him was the one who was the captive in his hand; and Ishmael was in the hand of Ibrahim - blessings and peace be upon them -; and he was dealing with his destruction; Allah (glorified and exalted is He) made Himself the sacred Ransomer; because the ransomer is the one who gives the ransom; and it is what is paid for the release of the captive; and He made Ibrahim - blessings and peace be upon him - ransomed from him; as an honor for him; and although in reality he is like the tool that has no action; and Allah (glorified and exalted is He) is the one truly ransomed from him; so He said: ﴿And We ransomed him﴾; meaning: the sacrificial animal; from the execution of his slaughter; and its completion; as an honor for him; ﴿with a great sacrifice﴾; meaning: with what is appropriate to be slaughtered; and it is a place for slaughter; and it is a ram from Paradise; it is said that it is the one that Habil brought near; and Allah accepted it from him; ﴿great﴾; meaning: in body; and status; and rank; because it is accepted; and it is a Sunnah to be followed; and it is made a religion until the end of time.
