Commentary
(p-186) Surah 'As-Saffat'
Its purpose is to provide evidence for the end of 'Ya-Sin'; from the transcendence above deficiencies; which necessitates the return of the servants to the judgment between them with justice; which necessitates oneness; and that is the meaning indicated by its title 'As-Saffat'; 'And indeed, we are the ones who stand in rows, and indeed, we are the ones who glorify.'
'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful'; meaning: the One who has absolute perfection; so no deficiency approaches His presence; 'the Most Gracious'; the One who bestows with the mercy of justice in both abodes; 'the Most Merciful'; the One who grants to whom He wills through obedience with reward; and a place of return; to remove punishment.
Since the exclusivity in the dominion cannot be except with the oneness of essence; in that is the right to be specialized with divinity; and that is - although it is not hidden from one who has understanding - with them in the utmost distance; and for that reason, they do not accept what relates to the dominion; and they deny it with utmost denial; it is appropriate that he swears by it.
And when it was from eloquence to make a correspondence between the oath and that which is sworn upon; and the alignment indicates the unity of intention; as in the ranks of battle; and prayer; and since the angels have no intention except Allah; without any hindrance from that; they were the most deserving of creation to be aligned; sometimes for prayer; sometimes for glorification; and sanctification; sometimes for managing sustenance; and sometimes for punishing the people of discord; and other matters that cannot be contained in hearts; and they were after the command of death; then the command of resurrection; which is explicitly stated in the previous surah; then the commands of the stunning; and the awakening; which will come in 'Al-Zumar'; when the sky splits with clouds; and becomes like paint; and it bursts with the might of the Sovereign, the Judge; and what is in it of bodies; and meanings; the angels of every heaven descend; and they become a circular rank; the angels of the first around the people of the earth; and the angels of the second around the angels of the first; and so on; then they become when it is said: 'O assembly of jinn and mankind, if you are able to pass through the regions of the heavens and the earth, then pass through' [Ar-Rahman: 33]; and the servants surged into one another from the intensity of the crowd; and the length of standing; whenever they leaned towards one of their directions, they were rebuked and turned back from passing through; although the organization of the managers; arising from their alignment in the management in obedience to the Almighty King; indicates unity; He, the Exalted, said: 'And those who are lined up' [As-Saffat: 165]; meaning: the groups of angels; and those who pray; and those who strive; completing themselves by aligning in obedience; for it is a description of a described entity that is omitted, with a feminine word; and He refrained from saying: 'the lining ones'; which is limited to the rational males; to include the groups of angels; and jinn; and mankind; and birds; and beasts; and others; indicating that He does not unite anything among them; for His intention to be unified, except for One, the Subduer; and that nothing's intention has united except that its description has become equal; and nothing's description has become balanced except that its rebuke has united; and its cry; and its rebuke has not united except that what reminds it by its voice has united; and nothing of that has united except that its intention has succeeded and its guidance has become clear; evidenced by observation; and the clearest of it is that the companions - may Allah be pleased with them - when their intention was united in elevating the religion; and they were the weakest of nations; and the least in number; no gathering of people who have no relation to them in strength; nor multitude; could stand against them; nor did their rank diminish; and their rebuke wounded hearts and broke them; and their remembrance opened and illuminated chests; as He, the Exalted, indicated at the end of this surah; by saying: 'And indeed Our soldiers will be the victorious' [As-Saffat: 173]; and likewise the non-human beings; from the animals; as seen from the mouse; and the locust; when Allah, the Exalted, intends the unity of His intention in something; He overcomes in it whoever opposes Him; and conquers whoever resists Him or confronts Him; thus it is clear that all good is what is intended by the oath; and it is truly united with that which is sworn upon; and they have come together in any union; and their meanings have been organized in every organization.
And when the emphasis by the source is more indicative of the intended unity, he said: ﴾in rows﴿; and this is the arrangement of the gathering in a line. And when the singularity of intention necessitates the strength that prepares for admonition; and the completion of others is caused by the completion of the self; and it is arranged upon it; and it is more honorable than it; if it were to be stripped of completion; and the completion is only fulfilled when its matter is completed; and its effect is magnified with awe: "So he took me; and he covered me; until I reached the limit of my strength."
