Commentary
And when the one who raises his head is not prevented from looking ahead of him; he said: ﴿And We made﴾; meaning: by Our greatness; and since the intended purpose is to prevent them from a specific good; which leads to complete happiness; not from everything that benefits them; He included the preposition; so He said: ﴿from before them﴾; meaning: the direction that they can know; ﴿a barrier﴾; and when a person finds a direction closed off to him, he turns to another; He said: ﴿and from behind them﴾; meaning: the direction that is hidden from them; and He repeated the barrier for the sake of emphasizing their denial of that; and to affirm its establishment; so He said: ﴿a barrier﴾; meaning: every direction they turn to is closed off; thus they cannot look towards the truth; nor can they reach it; for this reason He said: ﴿So We covered their eyes﴾; meaning: We placed over their eyes; by what We have of greatness; a covering ﴿so they﴾; meaning: because of that; ﴿do not see﴾; meaning: this description of seeing the truth does not renew for them; and what benefits them with an apparent sight; and an inner insight originally.
