Commentary

And when it was a place where the listener longs for the answer to this speech, he began his saying - addressing one who does not understand this argument truly as it should be understood -: "Say"; meaning: to this one who has made this example out of ignorance in his comparison of one who is capable of everything to one who is incapable of anything. He repeated the act of bringing to life explicitly for the intended meaning; to counter stubbornness; and as a sign of concern. So he said: "He brings it to life"; meaning: after it has decayed a second time. And he directed the saying to a description that indicates the ruling; so he said: "the One who originated it"; meaning: from nothing; then He brought it to life; "the first time"; meaning: for whoever is capable of creating something the first time, he is capable of bringing it back a second time. And it is a witness that life revives the bone; and it becomes impure by death; from which it is ruled as impure due to its deadness; "and He is capable of all creation"; meaning: of making; and measuring; it is possible for Him to create from that and from other things, both initially and in return; "All-Knowing"; meaning: possessing profound knowledge; so nothing of the parts of a dead body is hidden from Him; even if they are scattered in land and sea; and nothing other than that; for the verse is from the wondrous interweaving: bringing to life first indicates its like second; and creation second indicates its like first; and "the first time" in the second indicates the second time in the first; so He is capable of all things; as He has proven in Surah "Ta-Ha"; for He creates the necessities for every possible thing He desires; and removes the obstacles; so it exists in the state without any delay at all; this statement has reached the conclusion in indicating the bodily and spiritual resurrection together; the end which there is no statement beyond it; after He has prepared for it in this very Surah with what does not allow for any objection; with His saying: "So when they emerge from the graves to their Lord, they will hasten" [Yasin: 51] "Who has raised us from our resting place" [Yasin: 52] "So when they are all gathered before Us" [Yasin: 53] "Indeed, the companions of Paradise today are in joyful occupation" [Yasin: 55] "And distinguish today, O criminals" [Yasin: 59] "Burn therein today for what you used to deny" [Yasin: 64] "Today We will seal upon their mouths, and their hands will speak to Us, and their legs will bear witness to what they used to earn" [Yasin: 65].
