Commentary
And when He informed - glorified and exalted is He - of the blindness of their thoughts; and threatened with the obliteration of their sights; and their transformation upon their seats and their decisions; and made known that His Book is a seal for their warning; He reminded them of His power; and confirmed them in that by His wondrous creation; so He said - referring to what He intends: "Did they not see what We have presented and what the verse has made them understand: 'And whoever We grant long life'"; and what follows it from the wonders of Our creation; in allusion; and in declaration; indicating Our comprehensive knowledge; and Our complete power?! So whatever (p-172) we directed our words to him, the truth of the statement is upon him; and no obstacle prevented him; nor can any deterrent be imagined for him -: ﴿Did they not see﴾; meaning: they know knowledge that is like sight; what is more evident to them as a sign than that in their most precious possessions; and it is not far from me - even if the duration is long - that it could be connected to His saying: ﴿Did they not see how many We destroyed before them from the generations﴾ [Ya-Sin: 31] for that is an appeal to His oneness; by warning of punishments; and this is a reminder of blessings; and He alerted them to what is in that of greatness by presenting the words in their manifestation; as He did in the verse of the destruction of the generations; so He said: ﴿Indeed, We created for them﴾; and He specified it with His noble self; erasing the causes; and manifesting their honor by honoring it; in His saying: ﴿from what they have earned﴾; and when man is bound by delusion; he does not detach from it; and for that reason he sees the souls in dreams in the forms of our bodies; and His hand was the place of His power; and the location of His specialization; He expressed to him in what he understands; so He said: ﴿Our hands﴾; meaning: without intermediary; with knowledge from Us; of its strength; and its measures; and its benefits; and its natures; and other matters of it; ﴿cattle﴾; then He clarified its being for them; by what was caused by its creation from His saying: ﴿So they are its owners﴾; meaning: they are in control; overpowering; without any power for them over that; were it not for Our power by the type of causation.
