Commentary
And when the decree was: "So you followed him; and you walked his path; despite its deviation; and you left my path; despite the clarity of its straightness"; He followed this with His saying: ﴿And indeed, He has led astray from among you﴾; meaning: from the clear and straight path; by that which I have allowed him to do through whispering; and He emphasized it (p-154) as a reference to the fact that it is a matter that is hardly believable; due to the remoteness of its occurrence in reality; from the clarity of its matter; and the appearance of its corruption; and its harm; and when man is of strong resolve; high ambition; when he desires; he expressed it with his saying: ﴿Jibala﴾; meaning: great nations; giants; they were like mountains in the strength of their resolves; and the difficulty of submission; and yet, he played with them as a child plays; so glorified is He who has empowered him to do that; otherwise, he is weaker in plotting; and more insignificant in matter; he said in the dictionary: "Al-Jubal"; with a damma: the dry tree; and the group of us; like "Al-Jubal"; like "Anuq" and "Adl"; and "Uthul" and "Timir"; and "Timira"; and "Amir"; then he said: and with a kasra; and with a damma; and like "Timira": the nation; and the group; then he said: and "Al-Jubala"; with three dots; and with movement; and like "Timira": the creation; and the nature; and the reading of Abu Amr; and Ibn Amer; with a damma on the jim; and the sukoon on the ba; and the lightening of the lam; is for those who are at the first ranks of strength; and the reading of Ibn Kathir; and Hamza; and Al-Kisai; and Ruwais; from Ya'qub; with two dammas; and lightening; for what is above that; which brings closer to the middle; with the appearance; and the elevation; for the damma; of strength; and the reading of Rawh likewise; with emphasis; for what is above the middle - by that which the movements and emphasis indicate; but it is with obscurity; and as if it is by deceit; by that which the existence of the two movements with a kasra indicates; and He magnified - glorified is He - the matter with His saying: ﴿Much﴾; then He increased in reprimanding; and denying; by that which the situation produced; and what caused his misguidance for them; along with what they were given of intellects; from His saying: ﴿Did you not﴾; and when - glorified is He - He had given them intellects; and what intellects! He expressed it with being; so He said: ﴿So that you may understand﴾; meaning: to guide you to what is in it of salvation, your intellects; by that which I have established of evidence; and with what the messengers have alerted to; and warned against from the destruction of the past ones; due to following the devils; and other than that from every clear and evident matter.
