Commentary
And when he established that the recompense is of the same kind as the action, he began to detail it. He started with the noblest of the two groups in response to the one who asked about this recompense. He said, lamenting for the people of misery by reminding them, confirming what they had in denial in this world, and expressing a desire for this saying, and boasting about it, due to its great fruit: "Indeed, the companions of Paradise"; meaning: those who have no share of the Fire among them. He repeated the expression with "today"; to magnify its significance and to emphasize its matter, following the two blasts: the one that causes death and the one that establishes life, by mentioning some of its fruits and phrases of its great effects. He said: "today"; meaning: the Day of Resurrection; and this indicates that he hastens their entry, or the entry of some of them into it, and the standing of the remaining ones for intercession, and similar honors regarding the entry of the people of the Fire into the Fire. He expressed in a way that indicates that they are fully inclined towards it, and are prepared for it, while turning towards it. He said: "in occupation"; meaning: a very great one, which the minds cannot describe, just as they were in this world in the most engaging occupations, striving in acts of obedience. And when the souls yearned to interpret this occupation, he said: "enjoying"; meaning: they have the life of the one who enjoys, which is safety, and blessing, and ease, and pleasure, and complete comfort, just as they used to please us by exhausting themselves, and tiring them, and making them suffer, and terrifying them. And the reading of Abu Ja'far, by omitting the 'alif', is more eloquent, because it revolves around the continuity of that for them, and that they, in themselves, are at the utmost of what can be from lightness of spirit and good conversation.
