Commentary
And when it was as if it was said: What is this that has been sent with? It was as if it was said - in response to the one who asked: It is the Qur'an; by which the oath was taken; and it is ﴿a revelation﴾; or in the state of being a revelation ﴿of the Mighty﴾; meaning: characterized by all attributes of perfection; and when this attribute is for overpowering and dominance; and that cannot be an attribute of perfection except by mercy; He said: ﴿the Most Merciful﴾; meaning: encompassing all attributes of honor; who bestows blessings upon whom He wills from His servants after bestowing upon them their existence; with what establishes them upon the path that He is pleased with for them; for He is the One who has no equal whatsoever; due to what He has overpowered with His might; and what He has mended with His mercy.
He sent it down to you while it is in the grandeur of its structure; and the eloquence of its speech; and the sweetness of its composition; and the strength of its arrangement; and the gravity of its placement; and the wisdom of its meanings and the precision of its structures at the highest peaks of miraculousness; and He made its revelation gradual according to the interests; matching a match that has rendered the creatures incapable of bringing forth anything like it; then He organized it in a manner that does not follow the order of its revelation, in a composition that has rendered creation incapable of comprehending all that is intended from the depths of its meanings; and the wisdom of its structures; so all of it is miraculous in what it has of elaboration and brevity.
