Commentary
And when the resolute one is he who does not mock anything except when he has prepared for it with what is certain to repel it; he clarified their foolishness by their sudden coming; and that it must occur; and that it fills the heavens and the earth; so that there seems to be nothing in them except it; by His saying: ﴿What are they waiting for﴾; meaning: of what they are promised; and it may be that it means: 'they are waiting'; because their anticipation of it is in the form of waiting; and if they intended by it mockery; and he stripped the action to bring it closer to its realization; ﴿Except for a single cry﴾; and he clarified the insignificance of their affair; and the completeness of His power; by His saying: ﴿One﴾; and it is the first blow that is deadly; and he limited the emphasis on the oneness to this; unlike what comes in the reviving; because they do not deny the essence of death; ﴿It takes them﴾; meaning: it destroys them; and he clarified their delusion; by His saying: ﴿While they are arguing﴾; meaning: they are disputing; that is: they are arguing in their dealings; to the utmost degree of heedlessness; and perhaps he expressed that by the necessary merging from which the emphasis is derived; to the culmination of the dispute; by establishing its causes; the highest of them; and the lowest; to a limit beyond which there is no more; because the 'ta' means to the people of Allah the end of the causation to its lowest; and all of that is an indication that they at the time of the shock will be in the greatest security from it; because their turning away from it has reached a limit beyond which there is no more; and the merging also indicates that their disputes are in the utmost concealment; in relation to the cry; even if the dispute reaches the end in intensity; and no one has read 'they are arguing' with clarity; indicating that there is no complete dispute at that time until it becomes apparent; rather the cry will destroy them before the completion of the arguments; and the presentation of the evidence; so among them is what was initiated by its companions and they were brief - as indicated by the reading of Hamzah; by softening the 'kha'; and breaking the 'sad'; in a lightened form -; and among them is what was intermediate; and in it is concealment and elevation - as indicated by the emphasis on the 'sad'; with the stealing of the opening of the 'kha' -; and among them is what is likewise; and it is closer to clarity - as indicated by the sincerity of the opening of the 'kha'; with the emphasis on the 'sad' -; and he indicated that whoever read it likewise with the breaking of the 'kha'; to the intermediate with concealment; and the lowering; and Allah knows best.
