Commentary
And when mercy in provision and victory is attained only through mercy for the weak: "Are you provided for and granted victory except by your weak ones?"; "Indeed, Allah only shows mercy to His servants who are merciful." (p-137) And spending is the character of the believers; he said - clarifying that they have completely shed humanity - that they do not fear what may befall them of punishment, nor do they hope for what may befall them of reward -: ﴿And when it is said to them﴾; meaning: from any speaker; ﴿Spend﴾; meaning: on those who have nothing; in gratitude to Allah for what He has saved you from; and has benefited you with; by benefiting His creation who are His dependents; and he clarified that they are miserly with what they have no role in; and what their hands have not produced; but rather with some of it; so he said: ﴿Of what Allah has provided you﴾; and he made it clear; and did not conceal; indicating the greatness of the provision; by the greatness of the Giver; and he intensified their reprimand by making that apparent the name of the Essence; for it is not appropriate for the servant's giving to be according to the worth of his master; so he said: ﴿Allah﴾; meaning: the One who possesses all attributes of perfection; ﴿He said﴾; and he made it clear; reproaching them with the description that carries them towards miserliness; so he said: ﴿Those who disbelieve﴾; meaning: they have concealed and covered what their intellects have indicated to them of good; ﴿For those who believe﴾; meaning: those who say that; believing in it; whether they are the ones saying it to them; or others; denying them; mocking them; turning away from what the question about mentioning spending necessitated; to what benefits reprimanding them with poverty and the need for food; ﴿Should we feed﴾; and they refrained from expressing it in the past tense; lest it be said to them: He has ceased - glorified is He - feeding him from the time of his creation until now; so they said: ﴿Who if He wills﴾; and they made apparent a limit for Him; and His efforts; so they said: (p-138) ﴿Allah﴾; meaning: the One who possesses all greatness; as you claimed; at any time He wishes; ﴿He would feed him﴾; meaning: but we see that He does not will that; for He has not fed them; due to what we see of their poverty; so we also do not will that; in agreement with Allah's will in it; so they abandoned the proper conduct with the one commanding; and made apparent the proper conduct with some of the will that is forbidden from following it; and submission to it; and what was not enough for them until they said - to the one who guided them to good; on the path of the outcome of what has preceded -: ﴿Indeed﴾; meaning: what; ﴿You are nothing but in misguidance﴾; meaning: surrounding you; ﴿Clear﴾; meaning: in utmost clarity; and they did not realize that misguidance is only for them; for indeed - glorified is He - He has made feeding some of His creation without intermediaries; and some of them with intermediaries; as a test from Him for the obedient; and the disobedient; and the grateful; and the disbeliever; and the impatient; and the patient; and other than that from His wisdom.
