Commentary
And when the life of everything is indeed by water, He indicated this by His saying: ﴿Let them eat from﴾. And the reading of Hamzah and Al-Kisai, with the plural form, along with the singular pronoun, indicates that a single tree gathers by nourishing various kinds of fruit; ﴿its fruit﴾; meaning: from the fruit of what has preceded; and were it not for water, it would not have sprouted; and were it not for its abundance, it would not have borne fruit after sprouting.
And when man may cause the nurturing of some things, He - glorified and exalted is He - nullified the causes in what can be attributed to them as a cause; and He alerted that everything is by His creation; so He said: ﴿And what they have done﴾; meaning: and they have not done anything of that; ﴿with their hands﴾; meaning: a weak action - as indicated by the feminine form of the verb; so how about what is above that?! And if they were to combine on that, as indicated by the plural of "hand"; and when the context is clear in this, the reading of Hamzah, Al-Kisai, and Hafs from Asim came with the omission of the pronoun, not intended to be limited to the action; generalizing the object; returning all matters to their Creator; whether they were due to a cause or without a cause; meaning: and there was no action for their hands for anything of the things; neither for this nor for anything else that has an influence in their living; and from other than it; and for that reason, it was appropriate for all goodness to deny them the lack of gratitude; by His saying: ﴿Do they not give thanks?﴾; meaning: they should always strive to establish gratitude; and to continuously renew it at every moment; because of these great blessings.
