Commentary
And when He indicated - glorified and exalted is He - what He has of complete power; with the tremendous actions; of both death; and life; the two physical and the two spiritual; initiation; and resurrection; and the use of examples through observations is the closest thing to the mind; and the most effective for stopping disputes and arguments; and the most revealing of what is intended from the states; He said - adding to "So give him good news"; clarifying the third origin; which is the first in authenticity; the one intended by itself; which is the Oneness; including with it the other two origins; so that the example may be comprehensive; and the proof through it clear and shining -: "And set forth for them"; meaning: for them; as a good news of what is hoped for them upon their acceptance; and a warning of what is feared for them upon their turning away and retreating; "an example"; meaning: observed; in their insistence on opposing the Messenger; and his patience with them; and his kindness towards them; because we have sealed their hearts upon disbelief; despite their closeness to you in lineage and dwelling; and the success of others; because we have illuminated their hearts; despite the distance in lineage; and dwelling; with faith; and its good fruits; because they fear the Most Merciful in the unseen; and do not remain steadfast in ignorance and doubt.
And when He mentioned the example; He replaced it with His saying: "The companions of the village"; which is the place of wisdom; and the gathering of words; and the spread of knowledge; and the mine of mercy; and when the one represented by it in reality is merely informing it of the conditions of its people; because it is the face of similarity; and its news has been numerous over long periods; He specified the intended meaning by His saying: "When"; and it is a substitute for the inclusion of "the village"; detached from the circumstantial; and when the coming is a direction from a country; even if it is great; it is considered in common usage as coming to that country; He returned the pronoun to the location of the message; confirming it; and conveying in the definition the extent of the farthest distance; so He said: "It came to her"; meaning: the village; for the warning of its people; "the messengers"; meaning: from Allah; because they are from His Messenger Jesus - blessings and peace be upon him -; He sent them with His command; to affirm what pleases Him - glorified and exalted is He - and to negate what He dislikes; those who are among those mentioned in "the Creator": that they came with clear signs and with scriptures; and the definition is either because they know the village and know its matter; or because it is very well known; so they are in a position that if they asked anyone from the people of the Book; who are concerned with it; they would inform them of it; because it has been customary for them to return to them with questions; to clarify for them - as they claimed - the places of confusion.
