Tafsir for verse: 35:43
43because of their showing arrogance in the land and plotting of evil. And the evil plot engulfs none but its own people (who make it). So, they are looking for nothing but the (divine) practice with the earlier people. So you will never find in Allah’s practice any change, and you will never find in Allah’s practice any diversion.

Commentary

And when they were created upon misguidance; and repulsion could be for a praiseworthy matter; or permissible; he explained it by saying: ﴿in arrogance﴾; meaning: seeking to establish pride for themselves; ﴿in the earth﴾; meaning: that which is characterized by lowliness; (p-75) and humility; and obscurity; ﴿and the plotting of evil﴾; meaning: and for the sake of their plotting, the plot which is characterized by harming its possessor; and others; and it is their intention to belittle the matter of the Prophet ﷺ and extinguish the light of Allah; and the reading of Abdullah: "and plotting evil"; indicates that it is from the addition of the thing to its attribute; and the reading of Hamzah with the hamzah being silent; with the intention of stopping; is an indication of their precision in plotting; and its mastery; and their effort to conceal it; ﴿And﴾; meaning: while it is the case that it does not ﴿surround﴾; meaning: encompass an encompassing that is necessary and harmful; ﴿the evil plotting﴾; meaning: which is deeply rooted in evil; ﴿except upon its people﴾; and if it harms others; however, it does not encompass that other; and from Al-Zuhri, it is reported that he said: We have reached that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Do not plot; nor assist a plotter; for indeed Allah says this verse; and do not seek to harm; nor assist a wrongdoer; Allah says: ﴿Indeed, your wrongdoing is against yourselves﴾ [Yunus: 23]; and do not break your oath; nor assist a breaker of oaths; Allah said: ﴿So whoever breaks, he only breaks against himself﴾ [Al-Fath: 10]."

And when this is the Sunnah of Allah which has no change; he said - explaining this -: ﴿So are they waiting﴾; meaning: are they expecting; and perhaps he has stripped the action as an indication of the swiftness of the retribution from the arrogant plotter; and it may be from looking with the eye; because it is similar to knowledge of the retribution from the former ones; with the knowledge that His habit is continuous; because there is no barrier to Him from it; due to the great realization of it; and the intensity of His certainty; and the strength of His presence with something tangible that is present; nothing else is looked at in the past or future; because other than it in relation to Him is nonexistence; and when their reception of that was waiting for it from them; and the questioning (p-76) was in a manner of denial; it was in the meaning of negation; he said: ﴿except the Sunnah of the former ones﴾; meaning: their way in the swiftness of Allah's seizing them; and the sending down of punishment upon them.

And when this view requires clarity in the heart and intelligence in the soul, he turned from their inner thoughts to addressing the highest of creation. This was to indicate that this is a station that no one else can truly experience as it deserves. Thus, he caused a restriction of the view or a waiting in that regard by his saying - confirming for the sake of the firm belief of the disbelievers that they will not change from their state and that the believers will not prevail over them: 'So you will not find.' That is, at all, at any time of times; 'for the way of Allah' means: the method of the Greatest King, which He has ordained and ruled by. It is the destruction of the disobedient and the salvation of the obedient; 'a change' means: from anyone who brings another way other than it that would replace it, for there is no equivalent to it; 'and you will not find for the way of Allah' means: that there is no command for anyone alongside it; 'a turning' means: from one state to a more concealed one, for there is no repelling of His decree, for there is no equal to Him. And in the verse, that most of the talk of the soul is falsehood; so it is not appropriate for anyone to think well of themselves, nor to judge concerning the unseen except by linking it to the will, distancing oneself from strength and power, so that perhaps Allah will grant him safety in his outcome.
