Commentary
And when He made clear, by what everyone observes in themselves, that He is the sole Bestower; He commanded to mention His blessing; by acknowledging that it is from Him. For indeed, mentioning leads to gratitude; and it is the restraint of the existent and the hunting of the nonexistent and lost. So He said: ﴿O mankind﴾; meaning: those who have the capacity for disturbance in general; ﴿remember﴾; with the heart; and the tongue; ﴿the blessing of Allah﴾; meaning: the one who truly has no Bestower besides Him. And since His blessings are general and overwhelming from every side; He said: ﴿upon you﴾; meaning: in repelling what He has repelled of hardships; and in producing what He has produced of blessings; as previously mentioned in the opening; and in withholding; so that you may be grateful to Him; and not be ungrateful to Him. And what specifically pertains to the people of Mecca after they participated with others - their dwelling in the Sacred Sanctuary; and their protection from all nations; and their honor with the House; and that necessitates that they be the most grateful of people.
And when He commanded to mention His blessing; He emphasized the acknowledgment that it is solely from Him; in a way that clarified His might and wisdom. So He said - warning those who were heedless; and reproaching those who denied; and responding to the people of destiny; who claimed that they create their actions; and reminding of the blessing of the initial creation -: ﴿Is there﴾; and since the inquiry implies denial; He confirmed it with 'from'; so He said: ﴿any creator﴾; meaning: for blessings; and others; and since 'from' is for emphasis; 'creator' was in the position of raising; the majority of the people read His saying: ﴿other than Allah﴾; in the raised form; and Hamzah and Al-Kisai read it in the genitive form; and expressed it with the majesty; indicating that He is the one who is characterized by the attributes of perfection.
And since the answer is certainly: 'no'; rather, He is the sole Creator; He said - reminding of the blessing of the first sustenance -: ﴿He provides for you﴾; meaning: solely; and since the abundance of sustenance; as is observed; with the unity of the source; indicates greatness; He said: ﴿from the heaven and the earth﴾; with rain; and vegetation; and others; and when He made clear that He is the sole Provider; the hope of everyone from others was cut off; even from themselves; so sincerity was achieved; and it became necessary that He - glorified and exalted is He - is the God; alone; so He said: ﴿there is no deity except Him﴾; and the denial arose against whoever worshipped others; outwardly; or inwardly; so He said: ﴿So how﴾; meaning: from what direction; and how ﴿are you turned away﴾; meaning: you are diverted; and turned away from the face of righteousness in monotheism; by these apparent faces; to the polytheism; which has no basis.
