Commentary
And when he was ﷺ the Prophet of Mercy; and the limitation to this description might imply otherwise; he followed his saying - clarifying his greatness ﷺ - by turning to the manifestation of greatness; because the greatness of the Messenger is from the greatness of the One who sent him; so his warning is a mercy -: ﴿Indeed﴾; meaning: by what we have of greatness; ﴿We have sent you﴾; meaning: to this nation; a sending accompanied by; ﴿the truth﴾; meaning: the complete matter in steadfastness; which corresponds to reality; for whoever looks at the abundance of what he has been given of signs; knows the correspondence of reality to what it commands; and the estimation by the source indicates that the message is true; and both the sender and the messenger are right; ﴿as a bringer of good tidings﴾; meaning: for whoever obeys; ﴿and a warner﴾; meaning: for whoever disobeys; and the conjunction with 'and' indicates the connection in each of the two attributes.
And when it was something that facilitates guidance; and weakens the reins; the consolation; he said - affirming; to dispel the improbability of sending to all nations -: ﴿And if﴾; meaning: while it is that there is not; ﴿a nation﴾; of the past nations; ﴿except that there has passed in it a warner﴾; We sent him to them as a bringer of good tidings; and a warner; either by himself; or by what he left behind in their successors of his laws; of his words; and his actions; and his symbols; along with what they have of minds that witness that; and the warning indicates the good tidings; and he limited it because it is that which provides consolation for what is in it of hardship; and because among the past prophets - peace be upon them - are those whose call was purely for warning; because no one benefited from his good tidings; due to the lack of anyone following him.
