Commentary
And when the estimation was: "So what is equal in nature and intellect is the one who is blind due to his disobedience in the darkness; nor the one who is purified, who is by his obedience seeing in the light; and if they are equal in humanity"; he added what is suitable as examples for the blind and the purified; and what would be the blindness and the purification - as a sign of the completeness of his ability; which the context is for from the beginning of the surah; and a confirmation that fear and hardness are in His hand; nullifying the saying of those who attribute matters to natures - his saying: "And what is equal"; meaning: in a state of the states; and when the position was for the admonition of the polytheists; and the blind was before the purified; as he confirmed before; it was appropriate that he organize his saying in this arrangement - as an example for the disbeliever; and the believer; and the ignorant; and the scholar; and he presented the example of the ignorant because the origin of sending is ignorance -: "the blind and the seeing"; meaning: neither of the two types; nor their individuals; nor the individuals of one of them; and the appearance of the difference between the individuals of each type of the two types sufficed from repeating the negation; the meaning is that people are not equal in blindness and sight; rather some of them are blind; and some of them are seeing; because "Ift'ala" here means "Tafa'ala"; and perhaps he expressed it as a sign of negation; and if there was an effort not to occur; or a sign that the negated is only the equality from every aspect; not in the essence of the meaning; and if that were based on nature; they would be on one path; rather, the individuals of each are differing; so you find some blind people walking without a guide in difficult alleys; while another cannot walk in his house except with a guide; and another perceives from the book if he touches how many lines it has; and whether his writing is good or not; and another perceives the counterfeit dirham from another; and distinguishes the type of each country from another; and perhaps someone disputes with him contradictorily; so he does not accept the doubt; and another is far from that; and as for the seers, the matter is clear among them in the difference in their sights; and their insights; and all of that is a clear evidence that the doer is capable; chosen; increases in creation what he wills; otherwise, the individuals would be equal; and they would be on one path.
