Commentary
And when He concluded - glorified and exalted is He - the statement of truth; with the decisive proofs; and the clear evidences; by threatening with punishment; and the punishment was in the form of a threat as a retribution; and the retribution would not be judged except in the case of sin; He said - indicating that no one is exempt from what he deserves of punishment -: "And no"; meaning: He will not remove from you a punishment due to your burdens; and a power over you; while it is the case that no "soul"; meaning: carries on the Day of Resurrection; or at the time of removal; and since no soul is qualified to carry a burden that it does not have; and the one who is protected is the one whom Allah has protected; He said: "No bearer"; without "soul"; meaning: no bearer carries from the perspective of sin; "a burden"; meaning: a load; and a weight; "of another"; to be punished by it; but each one of you has what his own hands have earned, which establishes the proof against him directly; and as a cause; with your differences in burdens; and no one carries except what he has committed; no soul is taken for the sin of another that pertains to it; as the tyrants of this world do.
And when He established that no one is taken except with a burden; and denied that anyone carries the burden of another; and it was perhaps implied that this is specific to certain conditions; or individuals; and the greatness of the burden necessitates the greatness of the punishment; He denied this implication; and indicated the ability to differentiate between them in reward; even if their punishment occurs at the same time; by His saying: "And if a soul"; meaning: a soul; "is burdened"; meaning: with sins; whether it is disbelief; or otherwise; one "to carry it"; meaning: its own specific sins; which are not upon another directly; nor as a cause; to lighten it; so the punishment is lightened due to its lightness; "nothing will be carried"; meaning: from a bearer anything; "of it"; meaning: no obedience; nor by compulsion; but for every person is a matter that suffices him in origin and cause; "even if that"; meaning: that caller; or the one called to carry; "is of kin"; to the one who called him; and the result of the first is that no one perishes due to the sin of another; but due to his own sin; and the second is that no one's sin is lifted for another to be safe. And when this matter was - despite being clear - a heart-rending matter; it was such that the astonishment of the listener intensified from whoever hears it and does not fear; so He said - removing this astonishment as a conclusion -: "Indeed, you only warn"; meaning: a warning that leads to returning from misguidance; for their specificity in benefit, they were as if they were specifically warned; and it is as Al-Qushayri said: informing of the place of fear; "those who fear"; meaning: they perform this action in the present; and they persist in it in the future; and when the most rational of people is the one who fears the benefactor; for the least of his punishment is the cutting off of his benefaction; He said: "their Lord."
And when the most intelligent of people; the highest in ambition; and the noblest in lineage is the one whose absence is like his presence; and he does not need - with the words of the caller; and what appears to him from his demeanor; and the goodness of his words; and his actions - a sign to show; nor a miracle to present; rather, his faith is a confirmation of the caller in his informing him of the unseen matter; without the lifting of a veil; He said: ﴿by the unseen﴾; meaning: while they are absent from what they were called to; and were warned about; or while he is absent from them; or they are absent from whom they can show off to; they are sincere in their fear of Him; such that none knows about them except Allah; and we do not know anyone who equals Khadijah; and the truthful one - may Allah be pleased with them both - in that.
And when the prayer is a gathering of the submission of the apparent and the hidden; it is the noblest of acts of worship; and its establishment means preserving all its limits in every situation, it is the clearest evidence of sincerity; He said - expressing in the past; because the times of prayer are fixed -: ﴿and they established﴾; meaning: evidence of their fear of Him; ﴿the prayer﴾; at its five times; and what follows that from the Sunnahs.
And when the estimation is: so whoever is not on that has fallen into error; and whoever is on this has indeed purified himself; and whoever falls into error, he only falls into error against himself; He added to it His saying - indicating with the reflexive form that the soul is the most inclined to impurity; so it does not submit to the best of forms except with great effort -: ﴿and whoever purifies himself﴾; meaning: he has purified himself; and increased with these good qualities; and when a person may benefit from the immediate causes, he may neglect that this is a benefit for him; and specific to him; He emphasized it; saying: ﴿for he only purifies himself for his own sake﴾; for he does not harm or benefit in reality anyone other than himself; ﴿and to Allah﴾; who reveals all of His attributes in the most complete revelation that the minds can bear on the Day of Resurrection; not to anyone else; ﴿is the final return﴾; as it was from Him the beginning; so He will reward everyone according to his actions; and He will be just between you and whoever feared his Lord; by warning you and whoever turned away from that.
